Caring for Your MeePlus

Vegetable-tanned leather is made to change beautifully over time. Here’s how to care for your leather binder and Krause rings as they age with use.

Vegetable-tanned leather patina over time

About Vegetable-Tanned Leather

Every MeePlus binder is handcrafted from premium vegetable-tanned leather.

It tells the story of time.

Vegetable-tanned leather is a natural material that continues to evolve throughout its lifetime. Sunlight, air, and the natural oils from your hands gradually deepen its color, soften its texture, and create a beautiful patina.

It isn’t getting old — it is becoming more personal.

The best care is simply using it.

Rather than keeping your binder tucked away in a drawer, we hope you’ll enjoy using it every day. Regular use naturally nourishes the leather, allowing it to become softer, richer, and more comfortable over time.

01

Keep It Clean and Dry

Vegetable-tanned leather is durable, but like all natural leather, it appreciates a little care.

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or soaking.
  • Avoid extended exposure to direct sunlight.
  • Avoid high temperatures or placing it near heaters.
  • Avoid alcohol, solvents, or harsh cleaning products.

If your binder gets wet, gently blot away the moisture with a soft, dry cloth and allow it to air dry naturally in a cool, well-ventilated place. Avoid using a hair dryer or direct heat.

02

Scratches Are Part of the Journey

Compared with heavily finished leather, vegetable-tanned leather develops scratches more easily. These marks are not defects — they are part of the natural character of the leather. Over time, many small scratches gradually blend into the developing patina.

03

Do I Need Leather Conditioner?

Under normal use, frequent conditioning is unnecessary. If, after many years of use, the leather begins to feel noticeably dry, you may apply a small amount of a high-quality conditioner designed for vegetable-tanned leather. A little goes a long way.

About Krause Rings

Using the rings correctly helps keep them smooth and reliable for years.

Opening Krause rings

Opening the Rings

Always open the rings by pressing both ends of the ring mechanism simultaneously. Avoid pulling the rings apart from the middle by hand, as uneven force over time may affect ring alignment.

Closing Krause rings

Closing the Rings

Align both sides of the rings naturally, then press near both ends until you hear a gentle click. Avoid squeezing individual rings together by hand.

04

Everyday Care

Krause rings require very little maintenance. If needed, simply wipe them with a soft, dry cloth. To preserve their finish, avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, perspiration, or corrosive chemicals.

05

Hardware Warranty

MeePlus provides a 1-year limited warranty for Krause rings and the metal spine hardware.

If your Krause rings or metal spine develop a manufacturing defect during the warranty period, please contact us. We’ll be happy to evaluate the issue and provide a repair or replacement where appropriate.

Not covered: Normal wear, scratches, finish changes, minor oxidation, accidental drops, impact damage, improper operation of the ring mechanism, or other forms of user-caused damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my leather become darker over time?

Vegetable-tanned leather naturally reacts to sunlight, air, and the oils from your hands. As it ages, the leather gradually darkens and develops a beautiful patina.

Why does my leather scratch so easily?

Because vegetable-tanned leather retains its natural surface, it is more prone to everyday scratches than heavily coated leather. These marks often blend beautifully into the patina as it develops.

Why are there natural wrinkles, pores, or grain variations?

Every piece of leather comes from a real hide, making each one unique. Natural grain, pores, growth marks, and subtle texture variations are normal characteristics of genuine vegetable-tanned leather — not defects.

Why can I see the outline of the rings?

As the leather gradually adapts to daily use, the outline of the rings may become visible beneath the cover. This is normal and does not affect durability or functionality. Every MeePlus binder includes a Leather Ring Protector inside the spine to help slow this process.

May It Accompany You for Years to Come

A truly great vegetable-tanned leather binder doesn’t stay the way it looked on day one.

It quietly collects your plans, ideas, journeys, and everyday moments.

Every scratch, every layer of patina, and every subtle change in texture becomes part of its story — and yours.

We hope that years from now, when you open your MeePlus again, you won’t simply see a planner.

You’ll see memories worth keeping.
